A thick glass is more likely to crack than a thin glass
Many people think that the thicker glass is not easily broken, in fact, this is a misconception. Conversely, when poured into hot water, thick glass is easier to break, but not easy to break the glass and thin.
Because the thin outer wall of the cup can be heated quickly, leaving the inside and outside temperature is equal to the expansion and thus uniform; however, a thickness of the outer wall of the cup could not immediately be heated, the temperature difference between the inner and outer walls of the big, uneven expansion and thus, resulting in rupture. However, not only thin cup thin side wall, bottom of the cup must be thin. Because, when poured into hot water is first heated bottom of the cup, bottom of the cup if it is thick, it may also be due to the same reason lead to rupture of the cup.
